 Ref: francispodbrass

FrancisFrancis X1 Classic coffee POD Handle.

Boiler - BRASS boiler 2nd generation - not 1st generation aluminium boiler
Machine - Will fit - X1 (2nd gen), X3, X4 & X5 CLASSIC. Not for TRIO, GROUND (3rd Gen) or aluminium (1st Gen) Models.
Dimension - 71mm diameter - outer lug to lug

This is a replacement POD handle for your FrancisFrancis X1 Classic machine. It will only fit your X1 machine if it has a brass boiler (see below to identify your machine). The handle is complete with POD filter and is ready to use. Simple place an ESE POD onto the filter, and place in the X1 housing.

We have a very limited supply of these handles. There is no information from the factory in Italy that we'll ever be able to source anymore, this could be the last of the last. Get your replacement or a spare handle while you can!

How to ensure you order the correct Classic handle
FrancisFrancis machines were initially designed with an aluminium boiler. 1st generation (1999-2003).
The machines were updated in late 2003 (although aluminium models were still being sold up to April 2004).
Within the update the machine was given brass boilers and components, for improved heat retention. This is the 2nd generation machine.
The handles for aluminium and brass are different and are not compatible.
Brass boiler X1 models were replaced by the ground coffee only model in Nov 2007 (although still sold in 2008). This is the 3rd generation and current machine.

To identify which Classic boiler you have
With the FrancisFrancis machine facing you, tilt it backwards until you can see the area where the water would dispense through the E.S.E pod holder. There is a rubber ring (usually red) that circles the area in question. If the area around the rubber ring is silver coloured, then you have an ALUMINIUM boiler. If the area is brass/copper coloured, then you have a BRASS boiler. The mesh sieve can be brass or silver coloured in the BRASS model - it's the area around the ring that's the distinguishing factor.

Further information
The definitive method is to measure your handle, whether it be POD or GROUND.
The diameter of the Aluminium (1st Gen) boiler handle (including the lugs) is 66mm.
The diameter of the Brass (2nd Gen) boiler handle (including the lugs) is 71mm.
The current ground only model (3rd Gen) dimension is also 71mm. However there are other factors that distinguish between it and the 2nd generation Classic. The Ground model makes noises when it it up to temperature, there are icons underneath the coffee and steam switches, the handle has a black plastic push on spout rather than a screw on metal spout. As previously stated, the handle for the brass Classic (2nd Gen) does not fit the current Ground model (3rd Gen).
